Built-in cooktops & hobs
This section covers both built-in hobs and freestanding range cookers. The choice starts with the heat source and the width.
What to check
- Heat source — induction is fastest and easiest to wipe clean, gas gives instant control, ceramic is the most affordable.
- Cutout size — the worktop cutout differs from the hob’s outer dimensions — check both before ordering the worktop.
- Pan compatibility — induction needs a magnetic base; gas and ceramic work with anything.
- Width — 60 cm is standard, 80–90 cm gives room for large pans, domino modules let you build your own layout.
- Extraction — a hob with integrated downdraft removes the need for a hood — useful on an island.
