Choosing kitchen appliances

Start from the kitchen plan, not the appliances

Built-in appliances are chosen before the cabinetry is ordered, because each one fixes a cabinet size, an electrical or water connection and the ventilation. Choose appliances after the furniture and one of them usually has to be compromised.

What a normal kitchen contains

The core set is a hob, an oven, a cooker hood, a fridge and a dishwasher. A microwave, coffee machine or steam oven is often added.

One manufacturer's range

Appliances from the same maker share the finish, the handle profile and the control logic. The run stays visually whole and operating them is consistent. Mixing brands costs less, but the difference shows.
