What to check

Power — needs mains or a battery — check which, and where the power unit sits.
Manual override — most also have a normal lever for when you do not want the sensor.
Sensor — responds to movement; check whether sensitivity is adjustable.
Hole — the same 35 mm as a standard tap.

Touchless kitchen taps

How it works

A sensor detects a hand or a pan under the spout and starts the water. You never touch the tap, which helps when your hands are covered in raw meat or dough — the water runs without the tap getting dirty.

Water and hygiene

Water only runs when something is under the spout, so consumption is lower than with manual control. Avoiding cross-contamination is the main reason these are used in a kitchen.

Power

The tap needs a battery or a mains supply. A battery model usually needs a new battery once a year; mains power needs a socket in the sink cabinet. Most models also have a conventional lever, so the water can be controlled by hand too.
