Freestanding refrigerators

When to choose one

At the same width a freestanding fridge is usually 10–20% larger than a built-in, cheaper, and it moves with you. It needs no niche in the cabinetry and no door fixing.

Side-by-Side and French Door

Side-by-Side puts fridge and freezer next to each other, often with an ice and water dispenser. French Door places the fridge on top behind two doors with the freezer as a drawer below — the wider shelf takes a whole oven tray. Both need a wide opening and enough room for the doors to swing.

Placement

Leave ventilation space behind and to the sides as the manufacturer specifies. A freestanding fridge should not sit directly beside an oven or hob without a divider.
