Electric hobs
Electric ceramic hobs heat the glass from below with radiant elements, so any pan works — including glass and earthenware.
What to check
- Pan freedom — unlike induction, no magnetic base is needed.
- Versus induction — cheaper and takes any pan, but heats and cools more slowly and the surface stays hot.
- Residual heat indicator — important for safety — cooled ceramic looks identical to hot ceramic.
- Cutout size — check the worktop cutout separately from the hob’s outer size.
