Short answer. An outdoor kitchen is planned as separate modules (grill or hob, sink, storage) that stand side by side, and each module has its own needs: gas, mains power or water. The makers’ manuals set the rules. Miele’s Fire Pro runs on LPG, needs 600 mm clearance to combustible materials and a leak test before every use. For the Wash sink module, Miele advises draining the water and waste lines when frost threatens and storing it frost-free, so plan the winter routine before the layout.

1. What an outdoor kitchen module system is

Miele describes its Dreams range as a coordinated system. You start with the grill as the centrepiece and add modules step by step: hob, Sear grill, sink module, storage modules with drawers or shelves, and more than 60 accessories. Miele says functions can be added, rearranged and extended at any time, and its Wash manual describes joining modules with hooks and hand-tight nuts. Our Miele facts come from its 2026 German-language launch text, datasheets and manuals.

Two other makers cover single elements: Fulgor Milano makes built-in gas barbecues for a worktop you build yourself, and Artinox makes the Marina outdoor sinks.

2. Miele Dreams modules we stock

Sizes come from Miele’s datasheets, which give an adjustable worktop height of 945 to 980 mm. Where a width comes only from a manual drawing, the table says so.

ModuleSize H × W × D (mm)Needs
Cook S 2P (40 cm gas cooktop module)945 × 409 × 635 (604 on the cabinet drawing)Gas (LPG, 50 mbar) and electricity
Wash L (80 cm sink module)945 × 818 × 604Water: cold and warm (or cold only) supply, plus a waste connection
Fire Pro L 4P (80 cm gas grill with drawers)1265 × 818 × 687; about 1600 high with the hood openGas (LPG, 50 mbar) and electricity
Sear Pro P (high-heat grill)320 × 515 × 437; sits on top of a moduleGas (LPG, 50 mbar); 1 AA battery for ignition
Store S (40 cm storage)Width 409, depth 604 (installation diagram only)No connection
Store M (60 cm storage)Width 613.5, depth 604 (installation diagram only)No connection
Store L (80 cm storage)945 × 818 × 604No connection
Corner XXL (corner module)945 × 1227 × 604No connection

Miele’s manual says modules arrive pre-assembled and the connection modules (gas, power, water) are set up first. Its combination table sets limits: a Fire Pro cannot stand directly beside another Fire module or a Cool module, and Sear Pro goes on top of a module. Check your layout against the table. 3. Gas: what the makers and TTJA say

Figures are each maker’s own; your product’s manual governs. Fulgor says its barbecue is installed only by qualified personnel; Miele asks for a qualified electrician and, for water, a specialist.

  • Hose and regulator (Miele): use only the supplied pressure regulator and gas hose. Replace them if damaged, or at the latest 10 years after the production date.
  • If you smell gas (Miele): shut the gas, extinguish flames, open the hood and call your gas supplier or the fire brigade. Close the cylinder after use and store cylinders outdoors only, out of reach of children.

The Estonian safety notice

The Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (TTJA) published a gas grill safety leaflet on 22 June 2023. In summary: use a gas grill only outdoors in a well-ventilated place, never indoors, on a stable, level surface away from flammable material; check the cylinder for damage or corrosion, and the hoses and burners; keep the cylinder upright, away from heat and outdoors where possible; use only cylinders with the pi mark and a valid inspection; light the grill with the lid open and never leave it unattended; on a balcony or terrace use only grills the manufacturer approves, and follow the building rules.

We have no Estonian rule on fixed outdoor gas installations or cylinder distances to cite. For a fixed set-up, follow the manuals and ask your gas supplier or housing association.

4. Winter in a Nordic climate

Miele’s own sources point in different directions, so we show each:

  • Product pages (Wash L, Fire Pro L): you can grill and cook “365 days a year”, thanks to weather-resistant materials for outdoors.
  • Wash manual: water expands in frost and seals and lines can leak. If frost threatens, close the water supply and drain the water and waste lines. To avoid frost damage, Miele recommends storing the module in a frost-free room.
  • Fire Pro manual: operating ambient temperature from −20 to +45 °C (storage −40 to +65.5 °C). Cover the grill with the optional WeatherShield cover only when it has cooled fully and is dry. If you store the grill indoors, disconnect and remove the gas cylinder.

We found no IP rating for any Miele Dreams module and no winter guidance from Fulgor or Artinox, so we promise no year-round outdoor use. Treat water lines as a seasonal system you drain before frost.

5. Materials

  • Artinox Marina: Artinox says the collection is made of marine-grade AISI 316L steel, with excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, suited to outdoor settings and especially marine ones.
  • Fulgor: the 80 cm built-in barbecue is AISI 316 stainless steel, according to Fulgor.
  • Miele: the datasheets list a powder-coated finish in “Lava Schwarz”, stainless sinks, worktops and grill top, and weather-resistant materials. They state no stainless grade, so we make no claim. Miele notes that stainless surfaces show wear marks from weather and use without affecting function, and says not to use a pressure washer.

6. Planning checklist

  • Gas: the type on the product’s plate; where the cylinder stands; leak test and hose age.
  • Electricity: Fire Pro and Cook S need a socket within reach of the cord, fitted by a qualified electrician; Miele rules out extension leads because of fire risk. Miele quotes 220–240 V, 50 Hz.
  • Water and drain: cold (optionally warm) drinking-water feed, a waste connection with sufficient fall, and a plan to shut off and drain it for winter.
  • Clearances and shelter: 600 mm to combustible materials (Miele and Fulgor), 1000 mm above a Fire Pro; open air only, with at least 2.3 m under a roof (Miele).
  • Base: firm, level and stable, carrying the total weight; Miele states a maximum slope of 2 degrees, and its adjustable feet absorb small unevenness (about 3 to 3.5 cm per module).

FAQ

Can an outdoor kitchen stay outside in winter?

Not with water in the lines. Miele’s product pages say “365 days a year”, but its Wash manual says to drain the water and waste lines when frost threatens and store the module frost-free. See section 4.

Does the outdoor kitchen grill run on natural gas?

The Miele Fire Pro L 4P is specified for LPG only (50 mbar); a natural-gas Dreams version is not verified, so check the type plate. Fulgor supplies nozzles for both natural gas and LPG with its 80 cm barbecue; ask Fulgor which category applies in your country.

What distance to the wall does a gas grill need?

Miele: 600 mm to combustible materials on all sides for Fire Pro (500 mm for Sear Pro) and 1000 mm above. Fulgor: 600 mm, and 600 mm free above the cooking surface. The TTJA summary we read gives no figure, only “away from flammable material”.

What does marine-grade stainless mean?

Artinox calls its Marina collection “marine steel AISI 316L” with excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation. It does not define the term further on the pages we read.
