Stainless steel sinks
Stainless steel is the most common choice for a kitchen sink, and with reason: it takes heat and knocks, never fades, and suits any kitchen.
What to check
- Cabinet width — the sink is chosen to fit the base unit — a 60 cm cabinet will not take a double-bowl sink.
- Number of bowls — one large bowl is more flexible than two small ones if you wash big pans.
- Steel grade and gauge — AISI 304 (18/10) is the standard; 0.8–1.2 mm does not drum, and underside pads quieten it further.
- Finish — brushed satin hides scratches best, mirror polish shows every fingerprint.
- Mounting — top, under or flush — undermounting needs a load-bearing worktop.
